Covides commemorated on Saturday March 11 the International Women’s Day with an afternoon program that included various activities with women as protagonists. The novelty this year was that the commemoration took place at the winery that the cooperative has in Vilafranca del Penedès, in Camí de Sant Pau, Paratge de les Clotes s/n.
The event started at 6 pm and ended at 9 pm. For several years Covides has been celebrating International Women’s Day with a day dedicated to the members and winegrowers working in the Penedès.
Books, music and wine
The day began at 6 pm with the presentation of the book Converses a peu de vinya-50 dones viticultores del Penedès by Mª Rosa Ferré. The book talks about the important role that women play in the winemaking life of the Penedès through life stories and photographs of fifty women winemakers who appear in it. Next, project number 6 of the Celler Experimental de Covides was presented and tasted. A wine of very small production that is made at the winery’s facilities in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia. During the event there was the possibility to buy both the book and the wine.
The event ended with a concert by the duo The Escarteen Sisters, formed by two female voices, violin and cello, who play a style that mixes folk, classical and pop music.
The event was supported by the Department of Equality, Solidarity and Cooperation of the City Council of Vilafranca del Penedès.
