Rafael Ramon takes over the presidency of the Council for Organic Production
Rafael Ramon Martorell, an organic winegrower from Pla del Penedès and current president of the Covides cooperative, has been elected as the new president of the Catalan Council for Organic Agricultural Production (CCPAE). His appointment was made official yesterday, following the results of the elections held on May 27.
The new leadership team will be headed by Ramon and Gemma Llanes, an organic apple and pear producer from Ivars d’Urgell, who will serve as vice president. Both were part of the winning candidacy, “Impulsem l’ecològic, garantia de futur”, which secured broad representation on the new Governing Board.
The winning coalition is backed by key sector organizations such as Unió de Pagesos, the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Catalonia (FCAC), the Catalan Wine Association (AVC), and the Business Association for Organic Agriculture (AE2). The group succeeded in placing all its candidates on the Council’s leadership team.
In addition to the president and vice president, the new board includes several other prominent figures in the organic production sector, such as Pino Delàs (specializing in organic pig farming and extensive crops in Alt Empordà) and Carlos Riu (an organic cattle farmer from Pallars Sobirà).
Several representatives from the processing sector will also join: Eudald Massana, from the Eudald Massana winery; Miquel Blanch, an organic olive oil producer from Ulldemolins; and Alessandro Baldassarri, general manager of Chocolates Solé. The distribution sector will be represented by Alejandro Guzmán, founder of Biogrup SL.
With this new leadership, the council aims to preserve the prestige of Catalan organic production and continue to guarantee the highest standards of quality and consumer confidence in certified products.
