Covides SCCL together with the cooperatives Agraria Plana de Vic and Girona Fruits, participates in an innovation project, coordinated by the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Catalonia, and in collaboration with BETA Technological Centre.
The objective of the project is to convert a composting plant into a biorefinery for the production of high quality TMFs (tailor-made fertilizers) from livestock manure, to be used in the fertilization of woody crops such as vineyards and apples.
In order to satisfactorily achieve the general objective of the project, the following specific objectives are proposed:
- Optimization of an existing composting facility (Cooperativa Plana de Vic) to convert it into a biorefinery for the recovery of nutrients and production of higher value-added products.
- Formulation and processing of recovered nutrients for the production of specific TMF for grapevine and apple trees in pellet form. Using organic by-products in case it is needed to enrich the bio-fertilizer formulation, obtaining an innovative, organic, tailor-made product, easy to transport and apply and suitable for organic, integrated or conventional production as appropriate.
- In-situ fertilization tests to demonstrate the nutrient use efficiency of the TMF produced in vineyard and apple tree production.
- Technical, economic and environmental feasibility study.
