Mas Llinda Vi de Mas Xarel·lo 2022 and Mas Llinda Vi de Mas Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 are the top wines produced by Covides Vineyards – Wineries.
This Thursday morning, the Mas Llinda Estate located in Sant Sebastià dels Gorgs (Avinyonet del Penedès) hosted the presentation of the first two Vi de Mas of Covides Vineyards – Wineries. This category defines the wines of the DO Penedès that are characterized by following the highest criteria of excellence and total respect for the environment during its production, as well as enhancing the history of the farmhouses and farmhouses where they are produced.
Covides has unveiled Mas Llinda Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Mas Llinda Xarel·lo 2022. The event -which ended with a farmhouse breakfast and a visit to the estate- was attended by the president of Covides, Rafel Ramon, and the winery’s viticulture, enology and marketing team.
The top wines of Covides
Covides is committed to the production of increasingly Premium wines and cavas. As explained by its president, Rafel Ramon, “we are promoting the Reserva and Gran Reserva cavas and the top and unique wines, thanks to a selection of our best vineyards and a great winemaking team”. These are the first two DO Penedès wines from Covides with this category.
The reason for choosing Finca Mas Llinda for the presentation was because it is in these vineyards of Xarel·lo and Cabernet Sauvignon where these two Mas wines are born. This estate, located in a landscape environment of great value in San Sebastián de los Gorgs (Subirats), has a Mas documented in 979, catalogued as an Asset of Local Interest and with a long winemaking tradition.
After exhaustive monitoring of the vineyards by the winery’s ADV team, the winemaking department has produced wines combining tradition and innovation within the framework of the Covides Experimental Winery. Finally, the wines have been bottled at their winery in Vilafranca del Penedès.
Mas Llinda Cabernet Sauvignon and Mas Llinda Xarel·lo wines.
Both wines are made from organically grown grapes, which are left to ripen until they reach their optimum point. They are harvested by hand, in boxes of a maximum of 25kg per box, which allows a manual selection of the best fruit at the foot of the vineyard.
With a production of 1,200 bottles, Mas Linda Vi de Mas Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 expresses the terroir from which it comes. With a maceration of the skins during fermentation with pumping over and bleeding of the wine in tank for a year, its color is deep garnet with violet hues. Its aromas are reminiscent of cocoa and dried plums. In the mouth it is round, elegant and with a long aftertaste with sweet tannins. A very gastronomic wine, ideal to accompany consistent dishes. Its RRP is 19,95 €.
The Mas Llinda Vi de Mas Xarel·lo 2022 has a production of 1,700 bottles. 100% Xarel-lo, its elaboration is based on a light maceration with skins at very low temperature, bleeding of the must flower and fermentation and aging on lees for a short time. Pale in color with golden hues, it has aniseed and tropical fruit aromas. The palate is warm, fruity and slightly mineral. It is a very gastronomic Xarel-lo. Its RRP is also 19,95 €.
The “Vi de Mas” of DO Penedès
Coinciding with the presentation of its Strategic Plan 2021-2023, the DO Penedès unveiled the categories Vi de Mas and Gran Vi de Mas. A commitment of the appellation of origin to vindicate the heritage and winemaking history of the Penedès and at the same time strengthen the prestige and quality of the wines produced in the territory.
