12 Catalan wineries have presented some of their wines and cavas to American importers and distributors in two days of tastings as part of the Catalan Wines USA program, with the aim of promoting trade agreements. The event, organized by ACCIÓ’s Foreign Office in Miami, consisted of two days of tastings and masterclasses in the cities of Los Angeles (California) and Nashville (Tennessee).
The wineries that have participated in these days are: Agustí Torelló Mata, Albet y Noya, Alsina & Sardá, Casa Mariol, Castillo de Oro, Clos Montblanc, Covides, Domenio Wines, La Vinyeta, Mas Llunes, Monasterio del Tallat and Vinos Claramunt .
The United States, along with Germany, is one of the main importers of wines and cavas from Catalonia, so after the temporary cancellation due to the outbreak of the pandemic, the Catalan Wines USA program has reactivated the events in face-to-face format. In addition, these events have facilitated commercial agreements and relations between the wineries and 20 U.S. importers and distributors.
For Covides’ export manager, Anna Vázquez, Catalan Wines USA goes beyond wine tasting, given that thanks to its intensive format, the division into small groups with importers and distributors makes it possible to dedicate the necessary time to each of them”.
As for importers and distributors from the United States, Kirk Kurkjian, a member of the LAC Products Corporation family, highlighted how “this event allows you to see many things in a very short period of time, except that it makes it very efficient”. In addition, he added that “all the attendees are correlated and come from the same place is very positive”. Likewise, Hillside Wines president and CEO Bruno Laclotte said, “We have to educate the Los Angeles public about these new types of wines and it’s very positive to learn so much information so quickly. It helps us to capture essential information that might be missed”.
