The Girovi is distinguished from other similar competitions by two factors that make it atypical:
On the one hand, wines and cavas from all the Designations of Origin of Catalonia are presented, when it is usual for each of these regions to organize competitions of this type only for wines from that area.
On the other hand, the jury is made up of both experts from the wine sector -enologists, sommeliers, winemakers, teachers and students from the Hotel and Catering School, sellers, distributors, restaurateurs…- and simple amateurs, people who are not professionally involved in the world of wine but who have taken wine tasting courses or who are recognized by the organization for their good judgment in this function.
This mix between the opinion of professionals and consumers is especially valued by the wineries that present their wines in the competition, which are more and more every year.
