The Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Catalonia (FCAC) is participating in the new EU-funded project “Flattening the path towards digitization to facilitate the transition to agroecology in European farming systems”, which has been successfully launched this week in Tulln, Austria.
Agroecology has great potential to help achieve many of today’s challenges for the environment, economy, health and society. This task can be empowered by assembling digital tools and technologies, hence the commitment of PATH2DEA is to contribute to unlocking the catalytic power of digitalization to foster the transition of European agriculture towards more sustainable models. This project builds on the competencies and contributions of producers and aims to equip them with the rich repertoire of digital solutions already available for agriculture.
Six demonstration cases have been selected in Europe to integrate practical experience in the use, real-life application of digital agroecology and support co-creation processes and knowledge sharing.
FCAC has contributed with the presentation of our demonstrative case, Covides Vinyes y Cellers, as we have approximately 20% organic production. We implemented an ambitious digitization project based on Big Data and Learn Machine, where all environmental and production variables are combined for the creation of a useful model in the improvement of harvest predictions that allows to anticipate the necessary information to optimize the investment of resources and the dedication of technical teams in improving harvest yields in wine production.
PATH2DEA will provide a solid knowledge base in the framework of an open source repository of digital tools and technologies in agroecology with decision support functionalities and a well-aligned R&I roadmap to guide the digital agroecological transition.
The project involves 20 partners from different sectors and countries of the European Union. FCAC participates as a partner in this project with the aim of providing cooperatives and their partners with information on the digital tools and technologies available to make the necessary transformation towards a more sustainable production model. Moreover, FCAC aims to highlight in the context of research and innovation, the real needs of the sector towards agroecology and digitization and thus accompany cooperatives in the implementation of digital solutions according to their needs.
