The esplanade of the Prunamala estate of Covides in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia has hosted the 40th edition of the Fiesta del Socio. On Sunday, December 3, more than 1,200 people -among partners, family members and members of the sector- attended the traditional event where the winery’s new wines and oil were presented, which were part of the usual farmhouse breakfast. The event was attended by the Secretary of Food of the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda, Carmel Mòdol, and the mayor of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, Pere Vernet, as well as other institutional representatives of the territory.
The strength of cooperativism in the Penedès region
During the breakfast, the Covides team presented the new vintages of the winery’s new wines and oil. Although it is not an easy year, they have highlighted the good quality of the olives and grapes. A fact that is shown in the Arbequina oil and in the Duc de Foix Xarel·lo and Duc de Foix Cabernet Rosé.
This way of working, based on constant adaptation, has been highlighted by the Secretary of Food of the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda, Carmel Mòdol: “Resilience is one of the qualities that best define our peasantry. Something very valuable in a time of climate change as we live”. For his part, the mayor of Sant Sadurní de Anoia, Pere Vernet stressed “the importance of the work of farmers to keep our environment alive and continue to strengthen the peasantry”. The president of Covides, Rafel Ramon, thanked all the members for their efforts and reviewed the different lines that Covides is working on: “the aim is to continue offering our members everything they need for their daily life and to make known the quality of our products”.
The event also featured a performance by the Penedès Sidral Brass Band.
